Courses are designed for enjoyment, creativity and learning, while giving children the opportunity to explore and use a wide range of materials. Children broaden their imaginations while learning a range of skills and having fun. No projects are repeated so students can attend each term knowing there will always be fresh ideas and inspiration.
Classes are suitable for complete beginners and experienced children. Nina gives step by step demonstrations in different styles and disciplines – all classes involve making a project suitable for the class age group. Courses look at all stages of working a piece – from the initial concept to the finished work. Each week focusses on a different art project for example clay, painting, drawing, weaving, etc, With every term providing children with a selection of new projects there is never a dull moment.
Painting and drawing projects may include; still life, scenery, figures, animals and cartoons. Using pencils, charcoal, colouring pencils, markers, pastels, watercolours, acrylics or oils. Basic drawing, composition, colour mixing and painting techniques are covered as the weeks progress.
Clay and papier mache projects involve making a structure in clay or papier mache. Using clay, slip, newsprint, card, wallpaper paste, balloons, or wire.
Craft work projects may include; collage, constructing three dimensional models, fabric work, weaving, printing, bead work. Craft work projects are made from a range of recycled materials, wood, natural materials, beads, polystyrene, cardboard, coloured paper, wax, etc..
Nina views and monitors each student’s work individually, giving personal guidance, tips and feedback.
Children usually work on and complete a project per week. However more complicated projects will take slightly longer to finish. Children bring home their work upon completion.
A themed plan for homework is provided for students who wish to continue to do more drawing or painting during the week.
